The Planning Board's role is to guide the orderly growth and development of the County through the approval of development plans, as well as recommendations to the County Council and Zoning Board on all matters relating to planning and zoning, including the County's General Development Plan, zoning map amendments and zoning regulation amendments.
Please note the deadline for registration for virtual participation is 1 business day, no later than 7:00 pm, before the scheduled meeting.

Upcoming Events
The Howard County Planning Board will hold a public hearing on revisions to their Rules of Procedure. The hearing is scheduled for Jun 4, 2026 at 7:00 PM in the Banneker Room, of the George Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The hearing can be attended virtually by registering at https://www.howardcountymd.gov/boards-commissions/planning-board.

Section 1.107.B.1
1. The Petitioner, at their own expense, shall advertise the date, time and place, internet link, teleconference call-in, or similar information of the initial hearing at least two (2) weeks before the hearing in at least 2 newspapers of general circulation in Howard County. The Executive Secretary shall approve the proposed advertising before it is published.
New Additional Language
a. Board Information
The Planning Board typically meets the first and third Thursday of each month beginning at 7:00 pm in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building (3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043). Alternative dates may be scheduled at the discretion of the Board. Meeting agendas and all supplemental materials are posted to the Planning Board website two (2) weeks in advance of the meeting date.
