Recreation and Parks Advisory Board

This Advisory Board provides recommendations relating to plans, policies and programs for public recreation. It reviews plans for and hold hearings on the acquisition and development of land for public recreation and open space. 

All members must be Howard County residents. 

2020-2021 Members:
David Grabowski (Chair), Edward Coleman (Vice Chair), A. Raul Delerme (Recording Secretary), Antonia Watts (Board of Education), Thomas M. Franklin, Sylvia Ramsey, Herman Charity, Eduardo Marin (Student Member).

While the Recreation & Parks Headquarters (7120 Oakland Mills Road) is closed to the public due to the COVID-19 virus, the Advisory Board will host an online, live meeting on Wednesday, June 16 at 7pm. The meeting will be a Webex meeting only and will be live-streamed to all participants that preregister. Once registered, you may listen through a phone or view the meeting on a computer. 

To join the meeting: email [email protected] no later than June 15 at 9am. You will receive information on how to log on to the WebEx meeting once you register.

Notice of Public Hearing

Department of Recreation and Parks
Proposed Land Acquisition-Roadway Improvements

By virtue of and pursuant to the provisions of Subtitle 4, Section 19.400, of the Howard County Code, notice is hereby given that the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board will conduct a Public Hearing to consider public input on proposed land acquisition and planned roadway improvements that will impact Centennial Park and the surrounding neighborhood.

The hearing will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be a webex meeting only and will be live-streamed to all participants that preregister. Once registered, you may listen through a phone or view the meeting on a computer. If you would like to join the meeting, email [email protected] no later than Tuesday April 20. You will receive information how to log on to the Webex meeting once you register. You may send all questions and comments to [email protected] ahead of time and through the question and answer portion of the meeting.

Beginning, March 26, 2021, citizens can sign up online to speak at the hearing or have the option to provide online testimony.

Citizens are reminded that internet testimony is considered public information and is subject to the Maryland Public Information Act.

An interpreter for any person who is hearing impaired will also be live, online, during the event.
