Project Overview
The Office of Transportation is conducting a study to evaluate the feasibility of constructing a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Middle Patuxent River, creating a multimodal transportation connection between Kindler Road and Eden Brook Drive. A roadway and vehicle bridge existed in this location until the bridge was destroyed by Hurricane Agnes in 1972. The existing asphalt has remained on both sides of the river, serving as a popular walking and bicycling pathway.
The study will present a high level evaluation of crossing locations and bridge concepts that are feasible based on documentation and field run topographic survey. The purpose of this phase of the study is to identify a preferred crossing location and bridge concepts that will lay the foundation for future phases as the project moves into design alternatives.
Project Details
The feasibility study includes the following measures:
- Gather and evaluate data related to the project area. This will include field observations, environmental conditions, and GIS/LiDAR data.
- Evaluate potential bridge crossing locations with considerations for accessibility, environmental impacts, structural suitability, and construction/maintenance costs.
- Host a public meeting to discuss the study and facilitate feedback from residents.
- Create a final report of the study, which summarizes existing conditions, critical elements/constraints, and the proposed concepts.
