Community Hygiene Program

The Community Hygiene Program ensures that: reported animal incidents are evaluated for the risk of rabies, citizen complaints are investigated, children that are adopted or in foster care live in healthy homes, aquatic facilities are operated in a safe and sanitary manner. This Program is also involved in sampling of private drinking water wells, and other activities.

Rabies Vaccinations for Your Pets  

Howard County Health Department and the Animal Control and Adoption Center hold monthly $5.00 vaccination clinics to help you comply with County Code requiring vaccination to protect your dog, cat or ferret from the deadly rabies virus. (Click for a Rabies Vaccination Clinic flier)

Where: Davis Road Animal Control & Adoption Center 8576 Davis Road, Columbia, MD 21045

When: March 21st, 2024, 12:00pm - 1:30pm (Weather permitting)

Cost: $5.00 (cash or check)

Information:

  • Pets must be at least 4 months old to receive a vaccination.
  • Animals may be vaccinated with 1 or 3-year vaccine based on prior vaccination history
  • Bring a copy of previous vaccine history from a veterinarian. (3-year vaccination will be documented on the new certificate.)
  • A County license for your pet may be obtained at an additional charge ($6.00 for altered--proof is required, $24.00 for unaltered.) 

Safety First for All Participants

  • All pets must be on non-retractable leash or in an escape-proof carrier!
  • Muzzles are required for aggressive dogs!
