The Office on Aging and Independence (OAI) offers a variety of courses, programs, and activities to help older adults learn new skills, save money, access health information, make new friends, and pave the way for a more connected Howard County!
OAI is a proud partner with Senior Planet, the flagship program of the national nonprofit Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP that harnesses technology to enhance the way we age.
Through digital education and resources, we provide older adults:
- Increased access to technology
- New skills and expanded education
- The ability to harness technology to enhance their quality of life
Tech Device Donation Drive
In May 2026 you donated 1,768lbs of e-waste and 22 useable devices to be refurbished through our partners at PCs for People!

Meet OAI's Digital Equity and Engagement Manager
OAI's Digital Equity and Engagement Manager, Malarie Burgess, is paving the way for a more connected Howard County. As the Digital Inclusion Specialist, Malarie advocates for increased access to technology while building out the skills to use it. These efforts are part of the Transform Howard Initiative and align with Howard County’s move toward being an Age-Friendly community, addressing challenges noted in the Age-Friendly Howard County Action Plan.
Her leadership and commitment to digital equity were recently recognized when she received the 2025 Practitioner Champion Award from Marylanders Online for her outstanding work expanding access and digital skills in Howard County. Read more here.
