Commission on Aging

Who We Are

We are a 15-member volunteer advisory board to the Howard County Executive and the Department of Community Resources and Services 'Office on Aging and Independence. Individuals are appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council for three-year terms. The Commission represents various age and ethnic groups, diverse professional backgrounds, and different geographical areas of the county.

The Commission welcomes your input, feedback, questions, or concerns.

What We Do

Currently, families and households led by older adults make up more than 16% of our population, and this number will continue to grow. The County facilitates and supports our Commission on Aging to serve residents 50 years and older.

We seek input from our associates, relatives, friends, and neighbors regarding aging within the County and the State of Maryland.
We share information with, and make recommendations to, the Office on Aging and Independence and the County Executive concerning resources, services, and other matters related to the County’s older adult community.
We continue to work closely with Age-Friendly Howard County.

The Office of Aging & Independence promotes the full inclusion of persons with disabilities, addresses the needs of an increasingly diverse cultural community, and supports the desires of our residents to remain independent as they grow older.

Meeting Schedule

We invite you to attend our next meeting on April 28, 2025, at 6:30 PM virtually via WebEx (link below). We usually meet every 4th Monday of each month (excluding August and November/December), except on County-approved holidays, then the 3rd Monday of that month.
