Once each decade, Howard County updates its General Plan, a long-range, visionary document that guides land use decisions. The County’s current General Plan, PlanHoward2030, was adopted in 2012.
Currently, HoCo By Design, Howard County's General Plan Update, is in the planning process. HoCo By Design will result in a new General Plan that reflects shifting demographics, regional growth, and changes to priorities and community goals. The process is being led by the Department of Planning and Zoning (DPZ) and its consultant team.
Howard County launched the HoCo By Design website in July 2020 to provide project updates and extensive opportunities for input into the planning process. Visit the website and sign up to get involved and stay informed. Please be sure to share the HoCo By Design website with your friends, neighbors and colleagues. We want to make sure every voice is heard as we design the vision for Howard County’s future.
