The Office of the Inspector General's (OIG) responsibilities and jurisdictions include:

  • Identifying fraud, waste, and abuse/misconduct by responding to complaints/tips, conducting investigations and issuing reports of its findings to the County Executive, County Council, Inspector General Advisory Board, and the public.
  • Promoting efficiency, accountability and integrity in Howard County government.
  • Final OIG reports are issued to the Administration, County Council, Inspector General Advisory Board and the public pursuant to Howard County Code 22.1205.

Report Fraud, Waste, and Abuse/Misconduct

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) identifies fraud, waste, and abuse/misconduct in Howard County government, by conducting investigations in response to complaints or tips and issuing reports of its findings to the County Executive, as well as the County Council when applicable. What Information Should I Provide?

Our investigations are most successful when you provide as much pertinent information as possible about the alleged suspects, victims or areas of concern within Howard County government’s operations. The more information you provide, the more thorough of an investigation we can conduct in determining whether a crime or violation has been committed.
