Howard County Department of Public Works is composed of the Director's Office, Bureau of Engineering, Bureau of Environmental Services, Bureau of Facilities, Bureau of Highways and Bureau of Utilities.

The Director's Office provides leadership and coordination among the Bureaus to advance the quality of life for our community by providing exceptional level of public service. Employees coordinate the daily functions, customer service, the capital improvement program and real estate services.


DEPARTMENT NEWS

  • If you believe your property was damaged as the result of Howard County snow removal operations, please visit HoCoSnowInfo.org for details on how to file a claim.    
  • Due to the impending weather, the Public Works Board meeting for Tuesday, March 14 has been cancelled. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 11.
  • Due to inclement weather, collections are cancelled for Tuesday, March 14th. All collections of recycling and trash will slide and be made one day later this week (Tuesday will slide to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday, Thursday to Friday and Friday to Saturday). Please be patient as crews work safely to collect material. Residents are reminded that recycling and trash receptacles must be free of snow and ice. Scrap metal will be collected as scheduled on Wednesday. Currently, the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open on Tuesday, March 14th. However, if County offices are closed due to the weather, the Alpha Ridge Landfill will also be closed. Please check back for updates.

April 14

Good Friday - On Friday, April 14, Howard County Government offices will be closed. Trash, recycling and food scrap curbside collection will operate as NORMAL and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be OPEN. Offices will re-open on Monday, April 17.

  

May 29

Memorial Day - On Monday, May 29, Howard County Government offices will be closed. There will be no trash, recycling or food scrap curbside collection and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed. The Holiday Slide Schedule will be in effect. Offices will re-open on Tuesday, May 30.


July 4

Independence Day - On Tuesday, July 4, Howard County Government offices will be closed. There will be no trash, recycling or food scrap curbside collection and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed. The Holiday Slide Schedule will be in effect. Offices will re-open on Wednesday, July 5.
