Howard County Department of Public Works is composed of the Director's Office, Bureau of Engineering, Bureau of Environmental Services, Bureau of Facilities, Bureau of Highways and Bureau of Utilities.

The Director's Office provides leadership and coordination among the Bureaus to advance the quality of life for our community by providing exceptional level of public service. Employees coordinate the daily functions, customer service, the capital improvement program and real estate services.

Christmas - On Monday, December 25, Howard County Government offices will be closed. There will be no trash, recycling or food scrap collection and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed; therefore, the holiday "slide schedule" will be in effect.


January 1


New Year's Day
- On Monday, January 1, Howard County Government offices will be closed. There will be no trash, recycling or food scrap collection and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed; therefore, the holiday "slide schedule" will be in effect.


January 15


Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - On Monday, January 15, Howard County Government offices will be closed. Regular trash, recycling and food scrap collection will occur as scheduled and the landfill will be open.


February 19


President's Day - On Monday, February 19, Howard County Government offices will be closed. Regular trash, recycling and food scrap collection will occur as scheduled and the landfill will be open.


March 30


Good Friday  - On Friday, March 30, Howard County Government offices will be closed. Regular trash, recycling and food scrap collection will occur as scheduled and the landfill will be open.
