ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install a new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk along 6th Street from Decatur Road to Meredith Avenue in North Laurel, is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, October 29th. The project will include the construction of approximately 350 linear feet of sidewalk and new curb and gutter and will improve accessibility in the area by closing a gap in the sidewalk network to better connect community members to the North Laurel Community Center. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Friday, November 7th.
In the last seven years, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects, allowing us to construct, expand, and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community for all. Like our other sidewalk enhancements throughout the county, this project builds upon our best-in-the-nation Complete Streets Policy and impactful WalkHoward initiatives to improve neighborhood connections and provide our residents with safe, healthy, and enhanced transportation options.
Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic around the work zone along the north side of 6th Street during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
