ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a community outreach meeting on Wednesday, December 3rd from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., in the media center at Forest Ridge Elementary School, to discuss planned sidewalk improvements for Stephens Road in Laurel.
The proposed project includes the construction of a new sidewalk along the east side of Stephens Road from Hammonds Overlook Court to Hope Baptist Church at 8801 Stephens Road, to close the existing gap and enhance pedestrian mobility in the project area. Weather permitting, the project is expected to begin and be completed by the spring of 2026.
In the last seven years, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects, allowing us to construct, expand, and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community for all. Like our other sidewalk enhancements throughout the county, this project builds upon our best-in-the-nation Complete Streets Policy and impactful WalkHoward initiatives to improve neighborhood connections and provide our residents with safe, healthy, and enhanced transportation options.
While there will be no formal presentation, the meeting will include a display of the design plans and DPW staff will be on hand to explain the proposed work, answer any questions, and gather public comments.
Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions, should contact Dominic Taglione with DPW at 410-313-1885 or email dtaglione@howardcountymd.gov.
