Recreation and Parks Advisory Board

This Advisory Board provides recommendations relating to plans, policies and programs for public recreation, and to review plans for and hold hearings on the acquisition and development of land for public recreation and open space. 

All members must be Howard County residents.

Currently seeking a student applicant who is interested in serving on the Recreation & Parks Advisory Board.

The student board member will serve a one-year term from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, enrolled in high school for the 2017-2018 academic year, have an interest in public recreation and be able to attend the Board’s meetings which are held the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Applicants should send a resume and a brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the Board to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: David Lee, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for approval and the nominee will be submitted to the County Council for confirmation. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 15

Recreation & Parks Advisory Board   

Solicits Public Comment on the  

FY2018 Capital Budget

Howard County’s Department of Recreation & Parks will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. to consider the Department's "Draft" Fiscal Year 2018 Capital Budget and the "Draft" Fiscal Year 2018-2027 Capital Budget Improvement Program for the acquisition and development of park and recreation lands. The hearing will take place in the Conference Rooms at the Recreation and Parks Headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, MD 21046. 

Beginning, November 30, citizens can sign up online to speak at the hearing. From the same link, citizens will have the option to provide online testimony. Citizens are reminded that internet testimony is considered public information and is subject to the Maryland Public Information Act. Citizens who do not wish to sign up online, will still be able to sign up in person at the public hearing beginning at 6:30 PM on the night of the hearing.
