Leading with Equity
In collaboration with Countywide efforts, the Department of Recreation and Parks pledges to use an equity-centered lens across all operations to infuse concepts of equity, diversity and inclusion to create and advance opportunities for all. An Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee was created and its membership includes employees from all four bureaus: (1) Recreation, (2) Parks, (3) Capital Projects, Park Planning & Construction, and (4) Administrative Services.

Recreation & Parks is a recognized leader in opportunities for individuals with disabilities, complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, and is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing community recreational and leisure opportunities and promoting lifelong skills. This includes access to sign language interpreters, adaptive equipment, specialized training for staff and increasing the staff to participant ration.
Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Programs and Services
Designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, enhance quality of life, and develop leisure and recreation skills such as socialization, decision making, independent life skills, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
