The Howard County Office of Community Sustainability aims to protect and enhance the quality of life in our communities by addressing environmental and economic issues affecting County citizens and future generations. Guided by principles of science, ingenuity, sustainability and stewardship, the Office engages in water quality, economic development, agriculture, energy and education initiatives.

North Laurel Community Center
The North Laurel Community Center is one of Howard County's community centers, built to serve the southeastern portion of the county. The facility is shared by the Departments of Recreation & Parks and Health, Howard County Police and the Office on Aging and Independence. Features include a fitness room, game room, dance and aerobics room, double gymnasium, pre-school classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, senior activity room, and more.

Every ten years, after each census, Congress realigns congressional districts, the state legislature realigns legislative districts, and the Howard County Council, after considering advice from a seven member redistricting committee, realigns councilmanic districts. April 1, 2010, was the last Census Day. States received redistricting counts on April 1, 2011.

Ended April 5, 2021 - The Transit and Pedestrian Advisory Group advised the County Executive and County Administration on matters of Public Transit and Pedestrian transportation in Howard County.

The Graphical Information Systems (GIS) Division supports the creation, standardization, storage, and dissemination of geographical data for all County departments.
Emergency Food and Shelter Program Local Board
Local Boards are convened in qualifying jurisdictions to determine the highest need and best use of funds and to select Local Recipient Organizations that will provide emergency food and shelter services.

Bureau of Utilities
The Bureau of Utilities administers and maintains Howard County's public water and wastewater systems. Serving more than 85% of the County's population with an average demand of over 22 million gallons of water each day, the Bureau provides County homes with the most comprehensive public water related services available.
New Central Library
Howard County Government and Arcadis, are hosting a series of in-person and virtual community meetings.
Howard County Flag Commission
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the formation of a commission to solicit and recommend new designs for the official Howard County flag. The Commission will solicit designs and feedback from the public, and present three of the top five submissions to the County Executive.
