The Adventure Shack open for concessions and general store items daily; boat rentals on weekends (see below for hours)!  Check back here for updates or the best way to check for daily updates is to call the Adventure Shack & Rentals office at 410-313-7303 before heading to the park!  Concessions and general store items available now!  

Your drivers license, rental fee and an additional $10 deposit are required to rent a boat. Life jackets are provided and must be worn at all times; passengers must be at least 2 yrs old.  The Adventure Shack may close during hazardous conditions. All boats are rented based on a first-come, first-served basis; we do not take reservations or hold boats. Please see complete rules and regulations in the tabs below. The Adventure Shack also sells daily and annual boat permits for Centennial Lake!  Heading out on the lake early?  Purchase a daily permit at the launch and when you come back in, bring that receipt to the Adventure Shack for a credit towards an annual permit!  Up to three daily permit fees may be applied to your 2017 annual permit.

To find the boat rental dock, enter Centennial Park through the main South entrance off Route 108.  Once in the park, take the second right and park in the top lot.  Walk down the pathway next to the access road to the Adventure Shack & Rentals area.

Operating hours may be altered during park events, such as extended hours for Sunset Serenades concerts and closures during triathlons on the lake.  The Adventure Shack and Rentals may also close due to inclement weather.

Pricing

Boat Rentals CLOSED for the season - see you in 2018!

Cash or Credit Card (No checks):

2- or 4-Seat Paddle Boat: $10 per half hour
Canoe: $10 per hour
Kayak (single or double): $10 per hour
Row Boat: $10 per hour
Fishing boat with trolling motor*: $35 for a half-day rental (4 hours) or $60 for a full-day rental (8 hours)

ADDITIONAL $10 Deposit and photo ID REQUIRED with all rentals.  For example, if paying by cash, you must have the initial rental fee PLUS the $10 deposit per boat before renting.  If paying by card, your card will be charged the initial rental fee and held as a deposit - your card WILL be charged if you forfeit your deposit for any reason.

* By law, anyone operating this boat that was born after July 1, 1972 MUST have a Maryland Safe Boating Certificate.  The Adventure Shack is not responsible for any fines resulting from a failure to comply.  For information on how to obtain your Maryland Safe Boating Certificate, visit the Maryland Dept of Natural Resources page at dnr.maryland.gov/nrp/Pages/BoatingSafety/Safety_Certificate.aspx.

Rules & Regulations

1. All park rules and regulations must be followed.
2. Swimming is NOT allowed in the lake.
3. Littering in the park or lake is not allowed and will result in immediate expulsion from the Park.
4. All boat renters must be 16 years or older and have a picture I.D. The renter is responsible for loss or damage to equipment by anyone in his/her party. A person 16 years of age or older must be in the boat at all times.
5. ALL BOATERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A U.S.C.G. APPROVED PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE AT ALL TIMES
6. In the event of inclement weather, all boats must be returned to the boat dock area immediately. If a storm suddenly approaches, take the boat to the
nearest shoreline, exit water and secure boat to land.
7. Boats are limited to a maximum of 2 people in a 2-person paddle boat or a 2-person rowboat; and limited to 3 people in a canoe, or 3-person rowboat;
and limited 4 people in a 4-person paddle boat.
8. Unsafe conduct or inappropriate behavior anywhere in the park is prohibited.
9. All boats must return back to dock area by posted closing time.
10. All fishermen 16 years or older are required to have a valid Maryland Freshwater Fishing License, and to conform to all fishing regulations in regard to
catching and returning fish in this lake.
11. Feeding the wildlife is prohibited.
12. No pets allowed on rental boats.
13. Entering and exiting the boat is the passenger's responsibility.
14. All boaters must be at least 2 years of age and must be able to sit in their own seat on the boat. No sitting on laps or in the middle of paddleboats.
15. No standing on the boats; please remain in your seats. If you want to switch seats, come back to the rental dock.

Failure to follow these rules at all times will result in the loss of deposit.  If paying by card, your card WILL be charged the additional $10 deposit if you forfeit the deposit for any reason.

Violation of applicable regulations or failure to obey a direct order from a Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks employee may result in termination of the boat rental agreement, forfeiture of deposit, loss of park privileges including expulsion from the park, and may be subject to criminal and civil penalties set forth in section 19.201 of the Howard County Code.

Inclement Weather

The lake is closed in the event of extreme hazardous conditions.  The Adventure Shack & Rentals may close early or not open at all in case of inclement weather in the forecast.  Call 410-313-7303 before heading to the park for the most up-to-date information.

Renters should return to the rental dock immediately when you hear thunder while on the lake.  Listen for announcements from Adventure Shack staff as well.

The lake is open to personal boats from March until Dec 1.  Visit the main Centennial Park page for information on launching your own boat.  A permit is required to launch on Centennial Lake - daily permits are $5, payable by cash at the kiosk next to the boat ramp, or annual permits are available for $35 at the Adventure Shack & Rentals.
