Anime & Manga: Styles of Classic Mangaka
Appealing to readers of all ages and backgrounds, manga (Japanese comics) is the world’s most versatile and influential form of sequential art. Beginners and veteran artists, learn what techniques make manga so popular and how to incorporate them. Supplies included, but you are encouraged to bring your own sketchbook.

Comics Unleashed
Explore comic book design and learn basic drawing techniques, character design, page composition, layout, penciling and inking. Explore a variety
of comic genres including superhero, manga, indie, and graphic novels. Please wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. You are encouraged to bring a sketchbook for class and at-home practice. 

Drawing Techniques
Strengthen your drawing skills as you focus on different media including graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, pastels and watercolor pencils. Techniques include modeling, color transitions, gesture style, blending and wet-on-dry. Materials are provided but you are encouraged to bring a sketchbook. 

Painting for Teens
Work in acrylics to learn or master color mixing, brush work and how to “build” a painting rich with texture and color. The instructor does a demonstration painting each week and works with you one-on-one. Previous experience not necessary.

Hip Hop Dance with Nysia Carter
During this high-energy class, focus on choreography, perfect your skills, and learn hip-hop, popping and break-dancing techniques. With an easyto follow breakdown of the basic moves, put various steps together to allow you to step onto any dance floor. Wear comfortable clothes. Jazz shoes or sneakers required.


Personal Training
Each session is customized to fit your needs and abilities. Private training sessions are one participant to one trainer; semi-private sessions are up to three people to one trainer. Sessions are non-transferrable. Registration is first-come, first-served; walk-in and phone registrations only. Sessions must be scheduled at the time of registration. Small-group training workshops combine the energy of a group with individual attention from a certified, personal trainer. Howard County Teen Clubs
Join a diverse group of teens to represent the youth of Howard County and promote programs and events at community centers across the county. Bring your creative ideas and help develop new activities for teens. Monthly meetings focus on developing leadership, social networking and marketing skills. Creative Writing for Teens
Students, explore creative writing through poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Compose short stories, autobiographical works, and poems. Develop your own voices as authors as well as original plots and character development. The last class features a brief reading highlighting each student’s work. Model Call

Young men and women are invited to participate in an audition to perform in the 7th annual Fashion Show. Models participate in a fashion runway show promoting local designs and their own unique style. No experience necessary. For audition, wear comfortable clothing and heels or slippery bottom shoes. Model call takes place on February 22. Practices begin on March 7 and continue on Saturdays until the day of the show March 28th. Creative Songwriting at Olenka School of Music

Can you read and hear music written on paper first, just like Mozart did? Speak, read and write in the language of music by generating, exploring and developing ideas into original compositions. Learn to build your own melodies in a variety of styles with accompanying lyrics. Prior music experience is helpful, but NOT necessary. $15 materials fee due at first class. 

Keyboard & Guitar Beginners at Olenka School of Music 

Can you read and hear music written on paper first, just like Mozart did? Learn music as a Universal Language: speaking, reading and writing in music will help you to play piano/keyboard successfully while creating your own melodies and adding chords. $25 materials fee per student due at first class.

Vocal Starz with Olenka School of Music

Voice is our first musical instrument! The approach of learning music as a language will start a great music foundation for vocal technique. Beginner vocalists will share their love of singing in a fun, engaging and collaborative environment $15 materials fee per student due at first class.


Theater Arts

Intro to Acting
Enjoy an introduction to the concepts crucial to the theatrical arts:
self-awareness, observation, improvisation, creative imagination, and story-telling. Move towards building and heightening responsiveness
to action and the development of an actor’s skills. Students create, stage, and perform their own scenes. Last class features a short performance highlighting each actor.

Production Class: Roald Dahl's Maltida the Musical by Drama Learning Center
The story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Students will learn and improve singing, dancing, and acting skills as they work as part of a theatrical team. For elementary school registrants, please see "Youth" section. Learn the basics of mehndi using henna (which is the dye prepared from the henna plant). Class features instruction and hands on activities.
Hacks for Snacks 
Who's hungry? In this class learn quick and easy recipes that you can make when you come home from school or when you are in a hurry. Recipes include smoothies, quesadillas & homemade salsa, and pinwheel sandwiches.
