This summer, we are offering both in-person summer camps and a limited number of "Camp Came to Me" experiences that allow you to bring the fun of camp home. Read on for more information.

 

Robinson Nature Center's "Camp Came to Me" Experiences

This summer, bring summer camp to your child. Your child can enjoy camp activities from the comfort of your home with materials and online content provided by Robinson Nature Center. Camp Came to Me - Dynamic Dinosaurs

Let your 4-6 year old dive into the prehistoric past and explore the world of dinosaurs with materials and online content curated and created by Robinson Nature Center staff. Learn about dinosaurs through puppets shows, hands on activity kits, crafts, and outdoor movement activities. Have fun hatching a dinosaur egg and digging up bones. Create your own prehistoric world and set off a slime volcano!

We've created three morning’s worth of online content. Let Robinson educators guide your child through activities in prerecorded videos. Access activities on your own time with camp materials kits prepared for each activity so participating is easy and fun. See what your kit includes here. Though activities are designed for 4-6 year olds, participation will require the supervision of an adult.

Camp Came to Me - Lil Acorns (Parent/Child)

Delight in sharing nature with your 2-3 year old this summer using kid-tested and approved activities! We’ve assembled personalized camp materials kits that allow you to enjoy activities used in our popular Parent/Child Lil’ Acorns camps from the comfort of your own home. We’ve also created three morning’s worth of content to explore topics like plants, water, and animal life.  Enjoy puppet shows, songs, crafts, and guided activities led by Robinson educators in pre-recorded videos that you can access on your own time. Use your camp materials kit to make your own sensory bin, create various crafts, assemble a mini-greenhouse and more.  Check out all the materials your camp materials kit will include here

Camp Came to Me - Lil Pine Cones (Child-led, Parent Supervised)

Let your 4-5 year old make new discoveries about nature with materials and online content curated and created by Robinson Nature Center staff. We’ve taken kid-tested and approved activities from our Lil’ Pine Cones camps and modified them for kids to enjoy in their own homes and on their own time. We’ve created three morning’s worth of online content covering insects, nocturnal creatures, and dinosaurs. Let Robinson educators guide your child through activities in prerecorded videos. Access activities on your own time with camp materials kits prepared for each activity so participating is easy and fun. Your child’s camp materials kit will include an owl pellet dissection kit, watercolor crafts, salt dough fossils and more. Check out all the materials your camp materials kit will include here. Though activities are designed for 4-5 year olds, participation will require the supervision of an adult.

Camp Came to Me - Nature Makers

Let your 7-11 year old explore "maker" techniques including sculpting, imprinting, embroidery, watercolor painting and crafting using natural materials and a fully-curated kit of materials assembled by Robinson Nature Center staff. We've taken kid-tested and approved activities from our Nature Makers camp and modified them for kids to enjoy in their own homes and on their own time. We've created three morning's worth of crafty, creative activities with simple-to-follow written directions. Coupled with a few pre-recorded videos for activities with more complicated instructions, this Camp Came To Me experience is designed to keep your child’s screen time to a minimum and creativity time to a maximum! Camp Came to Me Experience - FAQs

What does the cost of these experiences include? 

These experiences are tailored for the age to which they apply. All experiences include a fully curated kit of camp materials organized for each camp activity and an optional camp schedule. Some experiences include pre-recorded videos that provide demonstrations, songs, puppet shows and nature lessons. Access to pre-recorded content is for three weeks and content can be viewed on participants’ own time. Kit materials are yours to keep. Other experiences include live sessions in which participants sign-on to Webex and participate in activities with other participants. Please see individual Camp Came to Me programs above for information on what each experience includes.

How do I pick up the camp materials kit for my child’s experience? 

Participants can pick up their camp materials kit on the date indicated during the window of time allotted from the front circle of the Robinson Nature Center. When arriving at the Nature Center, please pull into the front circle and contact the front desk at 410-313-0400. Give them your last name, and staff member will bring your kit to you.  

If you would like to participate in any of these camps, but are not able to pick up your kit during the specified window of time, please contact Meagan Downey at mdowney@howardcountymd.gov.

How do I access the pre-recorded online content? 

Enrolled participants will receive their “Camp Came to Me” welcome email two days prior to your material pick up date. In this letter, participants will be provided with a password that can be used to access pre-recorded content.  On the date of the camp kit materials pick up, you will receive an email with a PDF document including the video links to pre-recorded content. Your access begins on the date of the materials pick-up an dlasts for three weeks.  Participants will need internet access to stream pre-recorded videos. 

How do I access the live sessions? 

On the date of the camp kit materials pick up, you will receive an email with a PDF document including the link to the live session/sessions. For experiences with successive days of live sessions, we will also schedule an optional tech check for those who want to sign on prior to live camp sessions to ensure you will be easily able to get online for the live sessions. Live sessions take place on Webex. If you have never used webex before, we highly suggest using the following link: https://www.webex.com/test-meeting.html prior to signing on to live sessions to test out your device's compatibility. Participants will need internet access to stream live sessions.

Mini-Camps for 4-5 year olds (by start date)

Nature Extravaganza (6-8 year olds) - Aug 19-21 from 9am-4:30pm, 3-day camp

Camper Reminders and Important Info

Required Forms

  • Participant Information Form 
  • Medication Authorization Form - required if bringing epi-pens, inhalers or other medication to camp. Please note that a Physician's signature is required on the medication form. We cannot accept any medications without this signature. School medication forms are not accepted.
  • NEW for Summer 2020:  Doctor’s Note for Children Under 5 years and with underlying health conditions - The Maryland Department of Health Order Regarding Youth Camp Programs requires children under the age of 5 and individuals with underlying medical conditions that are high-risk for severe illness if contracting COVID to obtain clearance from the individual’s primary care physician to attend a youth camp. Conditions include chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, liver disease or if the child is immunocompromised or severely obese. It is recommended that parents consult with their providers office via telephone or email regarding camp attendance. Camps may accept copies of an electronic message (email) as meeting the clearance requirements. If your child falls into any of these categories, please forward their doctor’s note/email to Meagan Downey at mdowney@howardcountymd.gov prior to the first day of camp. 

Photo ID Requirement

In order to ensure the safety of children enrolled in camps, any adult picking up a child from camp must be listed on the camper's Participant Information Form as authorized to pick up the participant. This year, all camp staff are required to have you show a government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, U.S. military ID, or permanent resident card) at pick up before they release campers to you. 

Nut-free Camps

When packing your child's lunch or snack for camp, please note that all camps are nut-free. Do not pack your child items with peanut butter or other nut-butters, or with nuts listed in the ingredients.
