The Gary J. Arthur Community Center is a true “community facility” built to serve the growing population in the western part of the county. Located within Western Regional Park, the facility is shared by the Departments of Recreation & Parks, Health, and the Office on Aging. It features include a fitness room, commercial kitchen, double gymnasium, preschool classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, senior activity room, and much more.

Get in gear for a "wheely fun" day to celebrate Halloween and the 11th anniversary of the Gary J. Arthur Community Center at Glenwood! Come dressed in your favorite costume to trick-or-treat at all of the trucks, tractors, emergency vehicles and more, while meeting some of your hometown heroes. Each vehicle will be represented by our friends from County agencies, nonprofit groups, and local businesses. Enjoy live music, hayrides, face painting, children's activities, giveaways, story time provided by the Glenwood Branch Library, and more fall fun! Food trucks will be available to purchase lunch and snacks.

A sensory-friendly hour will be offered from 10-11am.

Drop-In Activities

Weekly Drop-In Center Activities: Included in all membership levels and $5 Daily Drop-in fee

From June - August please call 410-313-4452 and press option 1 prior to arriving for drop-in activity availability as summer camps are in progress and the schedule changes weekly. Drop-in activity is very limited during these months.

Children 15 years and under require adult supervision in the facility. Children 12-15 years old require adult supervision in the facility, except during after-school TeenZone program (Center Membership required). For info and to confirm time, call 410-313-4840. All patrons entering the facility must pay the daily admission or have a valid membership, unless they are a participant in a Howard County Recreation & Parks program taking place at the center.

"New" Little Rascals 10AM-Noon Thursday

*This program will begin in September. Bring your little ones indoors to play with push toys, hula hoops, tunnels and other gross motor skill activities. Through interactive play children develop motor skills and social skills.

 
 Games are self-officiated and site staff will help form balanced teams and court usage. Center ID or Photo ID is required.

The Go50+ membership packages are designed to enhance the quality of life for the 50+ adult population that lives, works and plays in Howard County. Howard County Recreation & Parks and Office on Aging & Independence partnered together to provide packages that are designed to give individuals access to meet their health and wellness needs.

Rentals & Party Packages

Many areas of the Gary J. Arthur Community Center are available for rent during operating hours. Rental areas can be used for parties, special events, business meetings, and other activities. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and a Facility Rental Request Form is required to check for availability. All requests are reviewed on a first come, first serve basis. A Rental Resource Guide is available for Download to provide additional information or call the Center Front Desk at 410-313-4840. The center is open daily from 7am-9pm M-Sa and 9am-6pm on Sundays, staff are able to provide a tour of the building and provide additional information about the specific amenities GJACC has to offer.

The Haymeadow room is a small (500sf) room conveniently located to the main lobby, ideal for small birthday parties, meetings or breakout space for larger events. The room is light filled with multiple windows and is equipped with wall mounted dry erase board and electric projector screen.

 The rooms (I,II,III) can be combined to create a space that is large and spacious with a total seating capacity banquet stile of 150 chairs or sectioned off to create three equal sized rooms with a seating capacity of 50. The rooms are lit by suspended from the 14’ ceilings with pendent lights and large oversized windows facing the sunset in the evening. An outdoor patio is accessible with picnic table seating and maintained grass area.

The Courtyard is located in the center of the Community Center. Well maintained seasonal foliage with rock river hardscape and in ground lighting for nighttime use. Party Packages
Let us host your next occasion to create a memorable experience. Packages offer a variety of themes to decorate your party room. All party packages include table cloths, a center piece, plates, napkins, cups and eating utensils for 20 guests, fees applied for additional guests. Security Deposit

A security deposit is required at the time the rental reservation is made. The security deposit will be refunded after the event provided there are no violations of the Rental Agreement. At the conclusion of the rental, a walk through will be performed with the organizer.

Rental Agreement

Full payment of the rental fee is due within one (1) month of the event in order to finalize the Rental Agreement. If request is made with less than one (1) month before the event, full payment is due at the time of reservation. The Rental Agreement outlines the rental terms, policies, procedures, and fees. For larger events that require a significant payment, scheduled payments may be arranged with the Community Center Director.

General Setup & Cleanup

Your rental reservation must include your setup and cleanup time. The organizer is responsible for removal of all decorations and trash. The Gary J. Arthur Community Center will provide general setup of all rental events; however, if the setup or breakdown requires additional staff to be scheduled, the rental organizer will be responsible for the cost. The organizer is required to be on site during the rental. If additional equipment is needed for the rental event (tables, chairs, audio-visual, etc.) the rental organizer is responsible for making arrangements for rental of these items once they have been approved by facility management.

Fitness

The Gary J. Arthur Community Center periodically offers fitness and nutrition workshops, health and wellness events, and orientations for new equipment. Each 30-minute session is customized to fit your individual needs and abilities. Private training sessions are one participant to one trainer; semi-private sessions are up to three participants to one trainer. Sessions are non-transferrable.
