Howard County Issues a Heat Alert in Response to High Temperatures
In response to high temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, the Howard County Health Department has issued a heat alert for Howard County. The alert has been issued for Monday, June 23 through Tuesday, June 24 with high temperatures expected to be in the mid-to-high 90s.
Howard County Department of Public Works to Host Second Community Outreach Virtually on the Dorchester Way Traffic Calming Project
The Howard County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Bureau of Highways’ Traffic Engineering Division will hold a second community outreach virtually on June 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. via a Webex meeting (passcode is "traffic") to present traffic calming plans for Dorchester Way.

Deep Run Wastewater Treatment Plant Demolition Project to Begin
A Howard County project to demolish and remove the existing Deep Run Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elkridge located between 5956 and 5988 Church Avenue, just southeast of the Church Avenue and Race Road intersection, will begin on or about Monday, May 26th. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by late November 2025.
Howard County Government Closings for Memorial Day Holiday on May 26th
Howard County Government offices and more will be closed on Monday, May 26th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 26th. As there will be no Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim, or food scrap collection on Memorial Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week.

Rutherford Way Pond Repair Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to repair and improve the stormwater management pond and stabilize the stream channel adjacent to 4525 Rutherford Way in Dayton, is expected to begin on or about Monday, June 2nd. The project expected to impact the flow of traffic in the area and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by late September.
Old Washington Road Sidewalk Ramp and School Crossing Project to Begin in Elkridge
A Howard County construction project to install Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalk ramps and school crossing signage at the southeastern intersection of Old Washington Road and Augustine Avenue in Elkridge, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 9th. Temporary lane and sidewalk closures can be expected throughout the project, which, weather permitting, is expected to be completed by late June 2025.
