ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install approximately 2,200 feet of new 36-inch sewer line from the Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Dorsey Run Pumping Station, located at the end of Patuxent Range Road (east) in Jessup, north along the Dorsey Run River and CSX railroad tracks, has begun. Weather permitting, the project will be completed in December 2025.
The new sewer line will allow DPW to better meet sewer needs of the area by increasing the capacity of the system. The project will also include the installation of additional sewer manholes, an underground diversion structure and miscellaneous accessories.
Signs will be posted to alert residents of the project. Additionally, variable message boards and flagging operations will be used when and if it becomes necessary to close Dorsey Run Road near the railroad tracks in both directions to allow for the installation of the line under the roadway. The closure will last for approximately two weeks, Monday through Friday, during the overnight hours of 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m.
While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
