ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, the Howard County Department of Finance and the Maryland Access Point (MAP) of Howard County today announced that in-person assistance will be available throughout the spring and summer to help applicants file for a variety of tax credits. A MAP counselor will help residents and business owners identify tax credits that might be available and offer guidance to complete required applications. Tax payers should refer to for a full list of credits and applications. 

“We want our residents to have access to every tax credit that they qualify for,” said Ball. “From our long-term residents to our public safety officers, all our residents deserve to get the credit they have earned.”

MAP counselors will be available at the Cashier’s Office at the George Howard Building on the following dates:

  • Thursday, March 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Korean language assistance available)
  • Monday, July 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In addition, MAP counselors are regularly available at the Bain 50+ Center at 5470 Ruth Keeton Way in Columbia on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or by calling 410-313-1234 during regular business hours for an office, community or in-home appointment. MAP offices are now located at the Community Resources Campus at 9830 Patuxent Woods Drive in Columbia. 

Depending on the tax credit, applicants may need to have and/or submit tax filing(s), identification, and proof of residence documents. The applications are available online to determine specific requirements.
