ELLICOTT CITY, MD – This Memorial Day, Howard County will launch a new initiative to highlight veterans and military families on the County's newly redesigned website. Coordinated by the Office of Veterans and Military Families (OVMF), with the support of the Howard County Commission for Veterans and Military Families, the ‘Fallen Heroes Tribute’ initiative will feature profiles of men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country.

Our military service members give so much to help keep us safe and protect our freedoms, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice. "Memorial Day is not only an exciting gateway to summer, but a critical moment to pause and make sure these heroes we lost are never forgotten. The tribute initiative will help make sure we can honor our local men and women every day and share their stories with our community.

Community members are encouraged to download the submission form to identify Howard County residents who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The submitted narratives will be added to the ‘Fallen Heroes Tribute’ webpage with a military service photo of the honoree to accompany their stories. The page will feature veterans from all eras including WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Global War on Terror, and peacetime.

We are proud to highlight our thousands of veteran and military families and the service network which supports them throughout Howard County and the region. Honoring their sacrifice, particularly those who gave their lives in service to our country, represents the best of what makes Howard County a great place to live, work and serve.
