ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking various health professionals and members of the general public interested in serving on the County’s Board of Health. Certain board members are needed that may have professional or administrative training in a health occupation but shall not currently work as a health professional or have worked as a health professional in the past five years. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 14.
Our Howard County Board of Health remains an essential tool to help improve and sustain public health for our residents and our community. The Board is a collaborative space for health professionals and the general public to work on health initiatives and community campaigns that encourage and support all of our residents to be healthy and thriving.
Comprised of 11 members, the Board must include: one environmental health professional; three health professionals, one which may be a veterinarian; and seven members from the general public. We are looking to fill the following vacancies:
- one shall be a health professional
- two shall have no health training
- one shall have environmental health background or training
- one shall have professional or administrative training in the health occupations
- one shall have professional experience in substance use disorders
- one shall have mental health expertise.
Board members serve three-year terms and are responsible for the health and sanitary interests of the people of Howard County.

The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for consideration. If approved, the appointment will be forwarded to the County Council for confirmation.
