ELLICOTT CITY – Today, the Howard County Department of Planning and Zoning launched a public virtual workshop for Phase 2 of the Route 1 Corridor Master Plan. The plan will activate transportation, infrastructure, land use and economic development implementation strategies to improve vibrancy and livability throughout the Route 1 corridor. The virtual workshop will be open through July 31st and can be found here.

The innovative site is an online version of the recent public workshops held in Elkridge (June 25) and North Laurel (June 27) that included an informational presentation, stations to browse, and survey questions. The goal of the virtual workshop is for residents to share what they know about the corridor and their ideas on how it can be improved.

“In addition to our public meetings, we have created this virtual workshop to make sure our process includes full community input and every voice is heard. Our site ensures the Master Plan process is fully transparent with access for all,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “Working together, we can take long-term action that will best support the vibrant neighborhoods and economic drivers along the Route 1 corridor.”

The Virtual Workshop includes all the stations from the public workshops, including:

  1. Overview of the Project, Schedule, & Tea
  2. What We Learned
  3. Land Use & Existing Conditions
  4. Character Areas
  5. Transportation
  6. Implementation Strategies

After reading each of the stations, visitors complete short surveys to provide their feedback. To fully experience the Virtual Workshop, it is recommended that visitors reserve 20-30 minutes to read the narrative and answer all the survey questions.

If you are having any difficulties with viewing the site, please contact: Peter Conrad, Deputy Director, Department of Planning and Zoning at (410) 313-2350 or [email protected].
