Robinson Fall 2020 programs and events

Registration for Fall 2020 programs is OPEN. Click here to read the Fall 2020 Events and Programs brochure as a PDF. Please note, we have added two new programs that weren't included in the Howard County Fall 2020 Activity guide you may have received in the mail. In response to HCPSS schools continuing in a virtual format through January 28th, 2021, Robinson Nature Center is offering two new weekly opportunities for children to spend time outdoors, enjoy nature-based activities, de-stress and interact with other kids in a setting following COVID Safety Guidelines. We are also offering monthly "Take Nature Home" programs that allow you to enjoy a fully curated kit of pre-planned activities with materials you can keep and instructional videos led by Robinson staff that you can access at your convenience. Read more about each program below and call 410-313-0400 to register or with questions.

NEW! Kid's Wednesdays Out at the Nature Center

Each Wednesday, join us to explore the wonders of nature, play outdoors with friends and have a day away from home. With many schools going virtual this fall, this program provides a weekly chance for kids to spend time with other kids while enjoying nature walks, river time (during warmer months) , games, meeting animal ambassadors and more. We provide "quiet time" for kids to work on virtual school assignments or de-stress with nature art or journaling activities. These programs will run in accordance with Howard County's COVID Safety procedures. Enrolled children will be divided into groups of no more than 13 participants and 2 staff. Face masks are required. No online enrollment, please call 410-313-0400 to sign up for the number of days you would like your child to attend each month and to reserve the dates of attendance.

The “Take Nature Home” program provides monthly curated kits that include pre-planned activities along with pre-recorded instructional videos that correspond to kit activities. Videos can be accessed by parents and kids at your convenience. Materials are yours to keep and enjoy again and again! Kids can experiment, make crafts and get outdoors with this hands-on approach to learning from the comfort of home. Kits are designed for each age group. Let’s Learn about Maps (4-5 year olds)

In “Let’s Learn About Maps” we will explore all about maps with curated materials in your Take Nature Home kit. Enjoy story time, learning how to read a map, making an interactive map of Maryland, and getting outside to find things in your own neighborhood that help with learning directions! Activities are designed to be child-led with adult supervision. $20 per kit.

Navigation 101 (6-8 year olds)

Discover tools to help you from getting lost in this course on navigation! In “Navigation 101” we will learn about reading maps and how to navigate one. With a provided compass, you’ll practice your orienteering skills, get outside to create a map of your neighborhood, and create your own sun dial to tell time without technology! $20 per kit.

Changing Landforms, Hands-on Topography (9-12 year olds)

During this lesson on geography we will explore the topography of the land and how erosion can change our landscape. After seeing the augmented reality sandbox, kids will try creating different landforms on their own with kinetic sand and see what happens when different weather systems come through. $20 per kit.

We recommend pre-registering for programs as some fill up before the day of the program. Additionally, some programs may be cancelled if a sufficient number of participants do not register in advance of the program. If you plan on walking-in, we recommend calling to make sure there are still spots available for the program.

**If you are deaf, hearing impaired or have speech disabilities and require the services of an interpreter for any of the programs below, please contact us at 410-313-0400 at least 2 weeks in advance so that we may accommodate your needs.**
