ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the completion of new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Howard County Library System’s (HCLS) Savage Branch complex. This is the second of several planned sites to add electric vehicle charging in partnership with Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE). The first site at HCLS’s Miller Branch launched earlier this year in February.

As part of its We’re Still In commitment to combat climate change, the County pledged to add at least 25 electric vehicle stations in public spaces located throughout the county by 2024. Additional upcoming EV charging station sites include HCLS’s Central and Glenwood branches and the County’s Ascend One Building in Columbia.

"Collaborating with BGE allowed us to increase our EV charging infrastructure throughout the county at no additional cost to our taxpayers,” said Ball. “Electric, low-emission vehicles are a step in the right direction to reduce air pollution and ultimately, our carbon footprint. Promoting this innovative technology is an important part of Howard County’s dedication to creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment.”

The Savage Branch location includes two BGE’s EVsmart Level 2 chargers. Each Level 2 charger features two ports, allowing for two cars to charge simultaneously. To use the chargers, customers simply need to download the Greenlots mobile app or scan the QR code on the chargers. Customers can also use Greenlots RFID cards to initiate charging sessions or pay via credit card by calling 855-900-PLUG (7584). The cost to charge on one of BGE’s EVsmart Level 2 chargers is $0.18 per kWh.

BGE installed the chargers at no cost to the County and will be responsible for the maintenance of the charging stations.
