Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced Howard County Conservancy, with the County’s support, has secured a forest conservation agreement with the Sisters of Bon Secours to preserve 32 acres of forest in Marriottsville.

Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) roadway maintenance crews are expected to begin chip seal patching operations on county roads on or about Monday, June 22nd. The maintenance process involves applying a liquid asphalt emulsion to the roadway surface, covering it with fine stone, and compacting the material with rubber-tired rollers to create a durable driving surface. Once the stone has bonded to the asphalt emulsion, crews will sweep away any loose stone and repaint roadway lane markings.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) Acting Chief Terrence O. Benn today announced the launch of HCPD’s Real-Time Information Center (RTIC), a new technology initiative aimed at giving officers and investigators real-time situational awareness during active incidents. 

In addition, Ball announced construction has begun on the adjacent multipurpose field and restroom in the park’s west area.

Proposed designation expands access to state funding opportunities that support revitalization, economic development, and quality-of-life improvements in the Elkridge area.

Howard County Government offices and more will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of the Independence Day holiday. There will be REGULAR Friday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim, and food scrap collection on July 3rd and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open. For the residents residing in Ellicott City who receive Saturday curbside trash collection, those collections will still occur as scheduled on July 4th.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

In Howard County, the sale, possession, and residential use of ground-based sparklers is illegal. Violators are subject to a fine of up to $1,000.
