Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and members of the County Council will join Visit Howard County and local restauranteurs to kickoff Winter Restaurant Weeks

Howard County’s Department of Community Resources and Services (DCRS) will conduct its annual Point In Time Count on Thursday, January 24 to estimate the number of homeless or unstably housed individuals in Howard County. In addition, DCRS will host a Howard County Counts Resource Fair geared towards homeless youth and families that same day.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Howard County Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission will present the annual celebration of the life and legacy of civil rights leader Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 20 at Howard High School in Ellicott City.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the beginning of the public input process as the County prepares to submit its annual Priority Letter to the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). The Priority Letter will recommend Howard County’s prioritized transportation projects for MDOT’s FY 2020-2025 Consolidated Transportation Program.

For a second consecutive year, Howard County’s Department of Recreation & Parks’ Warhawks Field Hockey Club has been selected to host the USA Field Hockey Region 7 Club Championships.

Howard County’s Office of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Thursday January 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at River Hill High School, 12101 MD 108 in Clarksville, to present preliminary plans for the sidewalk and shared use elements of the Clarksville-River Hill Streetscape project (Capital Project T-7108). 

Today, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced that the Howard County government is seeking applications from Ellicott City business owners and residents interested in serving on the Ellicott City Community Development Corporation (CDC) Exploration Committee

A Howard County construction project to extend public sewer to two residences in Laurel is expected to begin on or about Monday, January 21. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late January.

The pinning ceremony for Christine M. Uhlhorn was held at the department’s new headquarters in Marriottsville and was attended by Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, members of the County Council, representatives of public safety agencies, and public safety personnel.

The Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks has announced that nomination forms are available for its 2019 “Community Sports Hall of Fame.”

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced today that residents will now be able to donate to the Citizens’ Election Fund when they pay their quarterly water and sewer bills.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball named Lisa Myers, a retired Howard County Police Department Captain, as the department’s new Chief. A 27-year veteran of the Howard County Police Department, Myers retired in January of 2018 as the Commander of the Human Resources Bureau, overseeing Employment Services and the Education and Training Division.

Howard County Government offices, courts, 50+ Centers and animal shelter will be closed in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 21. However, regular trash, recycling, food scrap and yard trim services will be in effect and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is committed to assisting federal workers and contractors impacted by the current government shutdown by requesting all county departments and agencies to aid where available.

A Howard County project to replace a partially collapsed storm drain pipe located under Frederick Road, approximately 500 feet east of Dunloggin Road, in Ellicott City is expected to begin on or about Monday, January 14. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Monday, January 21.

A Howard County construction project to repair and stabilize an undermined stone retaining wall behind 3732 Old Columbia Pike in Ellicott City is expected to begin on or about Monday, January 7. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by early February.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will serve as Treasurer of the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) for the 2019-2020 term based on announcements made at the association’s Winter Conference this week in Cambridge, MD.

The County’s Department of Community Resources and Services will host its annual Preschool/Child Care Information Fair, “Children On Board,” on Sunday, January 27. The Fair provides parents, guardians, grandparents and child care personnel with a “one stop shop” for information on child care, pre-school and summer programs, as well as the opportunity for personal contact with teachers and program directors. 

Howard County's Department of Housing and Community Development is now accepting applications for its Moderate Income Housing Unit program during its first open enrollment period of 2019. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, January 31, 2019.
