Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will host a roundtable discussion with more than 30 federal contractors to assess the impact of the recent history-making federal government shutdown.

As federal employees head back to work following a history-making 35-day government shutdown, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has directed county departments to continue the special programs and services put into place to assist them.

The Transition Team appointed by Howard County Executive Calvin Ball delivered its transition report today. The 67-page document, prepared by more than 100 talented and forward-thinking leaders, studied and evaluated areas of county government with a focus on innovative opportunities to move the County forward.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will be presented with the report prepared by his Transition Team, which was chaired by Sen. Guy Guzzone and included former County Executive Ken Ulman on its steering committee.

Howard County’s Department of Community Resources and Services (DCRS) will conduct its annual Point In Time Count on Thursday, January 24 to estimate the number of homeless or unstably housed individuals in Howard County. In addition, DCRS will host a Howard County Counts Resource Fair geared towards homeless youth and families that same day.

A Howard County construction project to extend public sewer to two residences in Laurel is expected to begin on or about Monday, January 21. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late January.

The Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks has announced that nomination forms are available for its 2019 “Community Sports Hall of Fame.”

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced today that residents will now be able to donate to the Citizens’ Election Fund when they pay their quarterly water and sewer bills.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball named Lisa Myers, a retired Howard County Police Department Captain, as the department’s new Chief. A 27-year veteran of the Howard County Police Department, Myers retired in January of 2018 as the Commander of the Human Resources Bureau, overseeing Employment Services and the Education and Training Division.
