Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Howard County Health Department are reminding county residents about safety tips for celebrating the upcoming Halloween and fall season festivities to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball to be joined by other local officials to announce $1.3 million dollars in CARES Act Funding to support virtual learning support through the county’s HoCo S.T.R.I.V.E.S. initiative that provides wraparound services to students and families in need.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – County Executive Calvin Ball hosted a Public Safety Town Hall with Howard County leaders and officials yesterday evening. Leaders discussed handling operations through COVID-19, conveyed current efforts to keep our community safe and addressed social justice and equity issues, as well as provided an overview of their respective operations.

A Howard County construction project to improve drainage near 6728 Walter Scott Way in Columbia has begun. Expected to be completed by late September, weather permitting, the project is not expected to impact the general flow of traffic in the area.

A Howard County construction project to replace a deteriorating sewer main near 6445 Cardinal Lane in Columbia has begun. During the construction, Cardinal Lane will be closed to through traffic between Brass Knob and Quarterstaff Road.

A Howard County construction project to improve a storm water infrastructure near 860 Beetz Road in Mount Airy, is expected to begin on or about Monday, September 21st. The project will include the installation of approximately 400 linear feet of new storm drain pipe and inlets and resurfacing along the southbound lane. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late October.

County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking five additional adult applicants and one student applicant interested in serving on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission. Adult voting members serve five-year terms, whereas student non-voting members serve one-year terms from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. Applications are due by Monday, September 28, 2020

oday, County Executive Calvin Ball announced a second round of HoCo RISE rental assistance funding, providing an additional $800,000 in CARES Act funds to support residents struggling to pay rent because of the pandemic.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball hosted a kick-off of Howard County Restaurant Weeks & Craft Beverages at Aida Bistro on January 21. Restaurant Weeks, in partnership with Visit Howard County, will run from January 20 – February 2, 2020. There are nearly 40 restaurants, craft breweries, and distilleries participating with special fixed-price menus.

Recreation & Parks' sharpshooting deer management program is held to help maintain a stable, balanced, white-tailed deer population on county park lands where deer browsing has been shown to reduce biodiversity.  

The Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Environmental Services has announced that nomination forms are now available for its third annual “Business Recycling and Waste Reduction” and “Green Community Leadership” awards.

Coaches, managers, league officials, commissioners and even behind-the-scenes contributors closely identified with community recreational sports can be nominated. Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, April 15.
