Today, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball accepted a grant for $150,240 from the 2020 Census Grant Program Panel at the Maryland Department of Planning. The grant funds will go to census outreach efforts, ensuring every resident completes their census form and is counted in 2020.

On Thursday, April 25, the County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting to present the final plans for the Mayfield Manor pond repair project. Construction is expected to begin in late summer or early fall 2019.

The investment will be included in his FY2020 Capital Improvement Budget, to be presented to the County Council on Monday, April 1. A Howard County construction project to add a third left-turn lane on westbound Snowden River Parkway between Minstrel Way and Broken Land Parkway, in an effort to decrease congestion at the intersection, is expected to begin on or about Monday, April 7.

Thursday’s rainfall has triggered the second enhanced stream debris removal action since Howard County Executive Calvin Ball unveiled Phase One of his EC Safe and Sound plan in December 2018. As part of his plan to ensure public safety, Ball ordered inspections and debris removal of nine streams any time the County has a rainfall of two inches or greater in a 24-hour period, or after an hour of sustained winds more than 30 mph.
