To increase awareness and understanding for those living with autism, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has directed the county government to observe World Autism Day today, April 2nd.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking adult and student applicants interested in serving on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 3, 2019. 

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball presented to the County Council a $206.3 million Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Fiscal Year 2020, including $89.8 million from General Obligation (GO) bonds. The budget supports strategic priorities including education, economic development, Ellicott City flood mitigation, public safety, improved facilities for seniors and transportation.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced he will detail Phase 2 of his Ellicott City “Safe and Sound” flood mitigation and public safety plan on Tuesday, April 16. Today, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced the largest, single year investment ever dedicated solely to bicycle infrastructure in Howard County. The investment will be included in his FY2020 Capital Improvement Budget, to be presented to the County Council on Monday, April 1. The investment includes $2.2 million in county and grant funding, providing the next step towards BikeHoward Express, an integrated 48-mile network of bicycle infrastructure. Developing this network will provide significant economic, environmental, safety, and health benefits for our community

Howard County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 16 at the North Laurel Community Center to present plans for a nearby stream restoration project. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in summer/fall 2019.

A Howard County construction project to add a third left-turn lane on westbound Snowden River Parkway between Minstrel Way and Broken Land Parkway, in an effort to decrease congestion at the intersection, is expected to begin on or about Monday, April 7.

A Howard County construction project to repave the roadway and parking lots in Centennial Park’s North area, located at 9801 Old Annapolis Road in Ellicott City, has begun.

Thursday’s rainfall has triggered the second enhanced stream debris removal action since Howard County Executive Calvin Ball unveiled Phase One of his EC Safe and Sound plan in December 2018. As part of his plan to ensure public safety, Ball ordered inspections and debris removal of nine streams any time the County has a rainfall of two inches or greater in a 24-hour period, or after an hour of sustained winds more than 30 mph. 

On Friday, March 22nd, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will speak at a preview breakfast for a new Art Education Collection in the Howard County Library System (HCLS). This new initiative is one of only a few in the nation. It is integral to HCLS' mission to promote art and cultural education for all and create greater access and exposure to art within the community.
