Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has released the following statement on Howard County Public School System Superintendent Michael Martirano's proposed school redistricting plan.

In a ceremony held Wednesday night, the County's Department of Recreation & Parks' Robinson Nature Center was by the Howard County Autism Society as a local autism-friendly organization. The Nature Center recently launched its “Sensory-Friendly Sundays” program, which provides attendees a quiet, low-stress environment the second Sunday of each month.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has announced that the County will be partnering with the Baltimore Orioles for “Howard County Night” at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday, September 20th. Howard County will soon welcome the nation’s largest Busboys & Poets, and the first in the Baltimore region, to the Merriweather District in Downtown Columbia. The new 10,700-square-foot, two-story location will bring the Washington, DC-based restaurant, bookstore and event space into the forthcoming mixed-use neighborhood being built by the Howard Hughes Corporation. Busboys & Poets currently has seven locations across the Washington Metropolitan area and is a cultural hub for artists and activists, as well as a highly rated restaurant.

A Howard County construction project to repair and replace the stacked stone retaining wall aside St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, located at the intersection of Main Street and Ellicott Mills Drive in Historic Ellicott City is underway. The project will include the stabilization and shoring up of the steep slope and the armoring of the stream banks that were damaged by the 2016 and 2018 floods.

A Howard County project to replace an antiquated cast iron water main with fusible PVC water main along Old Lawyers Hill Road in Elkridge is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, September 11. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late November.

A Howard County construction project to rehabilitate the Foundry Street bridge over the Little Patuxent River in Savage is underway. During the project, Foundry Street traffic will be restricted to a single lane over the bridge between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The County's Department of Recreation & Parks has announced its 2019-2020 fall/winter schedule for managing the deer population through bow and shotgun managed hunts. Each park will be closed on its scheduled days for all other uses from dawn until noon during the managed hunt operations.
