Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is launching a new Temporary Use Permit for Outdoor Table Service for restaurants and bars that do not currently have outdoor table service or need to expand existing outdoor table service. Coronavirus Updates: Howard County Aligns with Governor’s Phase 2 Reopening, Contact Tracing Campaign
Today, Governor Hogan announced the reopening of additional non-essential businesses effective Friday, June 5th at 5:00 p.m., including some additional personal services, as Maryland moves into Phase 2 of his Roadmap to Recovery plan. Howard County will be aligning its reopening status with the State of Maryland, as well as his previous orders, which includes allowing indoor faith services as outlined by the Governor’s Executive Order. The Department of Recreation & Parks is reopening restrooms at its parks; however, playgrounds will remain closed. County Executive Calvin Ball will be signing an Executive Order tomorrow to bring Howard County’s reopening status in line with Maryland.

Howard County has received its share of the CARES Act funding, nearly $57 million ($56,830,393), from the State of Maryland. As a jurisdiction with a population under 500,000, Howard County was required to submit detailed applications documenting how grant funding is projected to be spent and execute a grant agreement with the State. Additionally, half of the County’s share of grant funding, $28,415,197, was granted to the Howard County Health Department, while the remaining half was transmitted directly to Howard County Government. Howard County Government has access to at least $9 million in funds granted to the Howard County Health Department to cover County health related expenses during the pandemic.

Coronavirus Updates: Howard County Testing Locations, Nursing Home Testing, EDA Reopening Resources
Two urgent care sites in Howard County are testing for COVID-19 in addition to the drive-thru VEIP site in Columbia. Yesterday, Governor Hogan announced expanded testing across the State of Maryland. Now, residents are not required to receive a referral from a medical provider to get tested at some VEIP sites and pharmacists can order and conduct COVID-19 tests. At this time, appointments and referrals are still required for testing at the VEIP site in Columbia.

Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 25. Montgomery Road House Demolition Project to Begin
A Howard County project to demolish a dilapidated home located at 7126 Montgomery Road in Elkridge, is scheduled to take place in late May. Weather permitting, the demolition will begin following the removal of utilities from the home and is expected to be completed within one week.
