Howard County Heat Alert Extended Due to Continuing High Temperatures
In response to continuing high temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, the Howard County Health Department has extended its heat alert for Howard County to Thursday, June 26 from 11am until 7pm.

Howard County Government Establishes Energy Saving Days for Holiday Week
Beginning today, June 30th through Thursday, July 3rd, various Howard County Government buildings and office locations will be physically closed to the public for Energy Saving Days. While building and office space will be physically closed, County staff will be working remotely to ensure the needs of community members are still being met.
Howard County Government Closings on July 4th for Independence Day
Howard County Government offices, animal shelter, 50+ centers, Alpha Ridge Landfill, and Maryland courts will be closed on Friday, July 4th in observance of the Independence Day holiday. As there will be no Friday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim, or food scrap collection on the 4th, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week with Friday collection sliding to Saturday, July 5th.
Furrow Avenue Sewer Extension Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to install 1,651 feet of eight-inch sewer line along Furrow Avenue between Twiford Court and Elmonte Woods Way in Ellicott City, will begin on Monday, July 7th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in early November.

A Howard County construction project to repair and improve a stormwater management pond near 8304 Painted Rock Road in Columbia, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, July 28th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late February 2026.

A Howard County construction project to perform preventative bridge maintenance and improvements on Snowden River Parkway southbound over Robert Fulton Drive in Columbia, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, July 7th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by February 2027.

A Howard County construction project to perform preventative bridge maintenance on Tamar Drive over Elkhorn Branch trail between Phelps Luck Road and Sweet Wind Place in Columbia, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, July 7th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by May 2026.
