Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announces his support for Zoning Regulation Amendment 221, which allows for the adaptive reuse and redevelopment of existing motel and hotel sites along the Route 1 Corridor in Howard County.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball was joined by the County’s Department of Recreation & Parks Director Nick Mooneyhan to officially open the new addition to the department’s North Laurel Community Center at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road in Laurel.

The carefully crafted $432.6 million package provides critical resources for education, community facilities, public safety, flood control, infrastructure maintenance, transportation, and more.

First recognized in 2019, this award recognizes Belmont’s continued commitment to offering excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism to couples planning their wedding. This is the third time Belmont has received the award in the past four years, only missing 2021 recognition due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) has received a $20,000 award from the Maryland Department of Health’s (MDH) Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Control (CCDPC) to establish a committee to address food insecurity in Howard County. This newly-formed HCLHIC committee will work to implement food security initiatives among priority populations.

The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (LHIC) has provided $4,150 to the Community Ecology Institute to build and maintain community gardens at Bryant Woods and Talbott Springs elementary schools.

In a ceremony held Wednesday night, the County's Department of Recreation & Parks' Robinson Nature Center was by the Howard County Autism Society as a local autism-friendly organization.
