Howard County Executive Calvin Ball held a press conference today to highlight the County's transformative new solar legislation that allows solar in all zones across the county, including on agriculturally preserved land. The Howard County Council unanimously passed the new regulations in Council Bill 17-2021 earlier this month.

Howard County Public Works to Begin Maintenance Work to Extend Lifespan of County Roads
A Howard County road maintenance project using a “chip seal” process to extend the lifespan of nearly 22 miles of the County’s roads out west by seven to 10 years, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 14th. Signs will be posted to alert motorists and cyclists of the project and to urge caution when traveling through the project area as loose gravel and unmarked pavement can be expected until the work is complete. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by early August.

Haviland Mill Park Parking Lot to Close for Trail Construction Project
Beginning on or about Monday, June 7th, the County’s Department of Recreation & Parks will close the parking lot at Haviland Mill Park in Clarksville to allow for work to begin on the loop trail. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in late fall, early winter 2021.
Pirch Way Stream Stabilization Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to stabilize the stream banks along approximately 200 linear feet of an unnamed tributary to Deep Run in Elkridge, is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, June 9th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late September 2021.

Shaffers Mill Road Culvert Replacement to Begin
A Howard County construction project to replace two deteriorating culverts under a portion of Shaffers Mill Road, approximately 650 feet west of Shaffersville Road in Mount Airy. During the project, Shaffers Mill Road at the construction site will be closed to thru traffic. Motorists will follow a clearly marked detour using Shaffersville Road and Florence Road. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-July
