A Howard County construction project to extend the lifespan of some of the County’s roads is underway. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late October.

Howard County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, October 1 to present plans for two nearby capital projects: Capital Project D-1178, Woodcrest Drive Principal Spillway Replacement and Water Quality Retrofit Project and Capital Project D-1176, Woodcrest Drive Stream Rehabilitation Project. 

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will break ground on the nation’s largest Busboys & Poets, the first in the Baltimore region. The Washington, DC-based restaurant, bookstore and event space will construct 10,700-square-foot, two-story location in the Merriweather District of Downtown Columbia. Busboys & Poets currently has seven locations across the Washington Metropolitan area and is a cultural hub for artists and activists, as well as a highly rated restaurant.

On September 29th, the Howard County Office of Human Rights and Friends of Latin America will hold a “Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration” to commemorate the numerous contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made to enrich the fabric of the United States and Howard County. Additionally, there will be presentations and speakers highlighting resources for those who face discrimination.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will trade places with Caitlin Patrick of Maple Dell Farm in Woodbine as part of the 16th annual Farm-City Celebration, which runs from September 21 to October 6. Ball will help run the Patrick family’s farming operation, while “County Executive” Patrick will get a taste of a typical day in the life of a County Executive.

A Howard County construction project to repair and replace the stacked stone retaining wall aside St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, located at the intersection of Main Street and Ellicott Mills Drive in Historic Ellicott City is underway. The project will include the stabilization and shoring up of the steep slope and the armoring of the stream banks that were damaged by the 2016 and 2018 floods.
