In response to high temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, the Howard County Health Department has issued a heat alert for Howard County. The alert has been issued for Friday, July 5 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with high temperatures expected to be in the mid-to-high 90s.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the County’s Department of Community Resources & Services’ (DCRS) Office on Aging and Independence (OAI) has been awarded a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for its Older Adult Home Modification Program (OAHMP).

This critical project will add more than 1,000 linear feet of new sidewalk to the Dunloggin community, connecting more households with nearby schools.

As one of the only partnerships on a college campus, the Boys & Girls Club will offer free programming and enrichment activities for Howard County middle and high schoolers held on HCC’s campus

The new process will take new factors into consideration when evaluating roads for traffic calming and speed reduction efforts

Through an annual back-to-school initiative known as H.A.S.T.E. (Helping Arriving Students Through Enforcement), officers will focus on enforcing driver and pedestrian safety in school zones.

Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 2nd. As there will be no Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Labor Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week.
