A Howard County construction project to relocate the overflow of an elevated storage tank near the US 29/MD 216 interchange in Laurel, is expected to begin on or about Monday, June 6th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late June.

Howard County Marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Protect Week with Elder Abuse Awareness Resource Fair
To help raise awareness about and in alignment with Protect Week (June 13th to June 17th) and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15th), Howard County’s Department of Community Resources and Services’ (DCRS) will host an Elder Abuse Awareness Resource Fair on Saturday, June 11th. The Fair will feature representatives from AARP Maryland, Howard County Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, CCCSMD, Age-Friendly Howard County, the Howard County Department of Social Services and other community partners, as well as a document shredding event.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will honor individuals, businesses and organizations exemplifying outstanding service and sacrifice during the pandemic with a new “Rise to the Challenge” award. Now through July 8th, nominations for award recipients across five categories are being accepted electronically and via mail. The winners will be announced later this year.

Public Works to Begin Maintenance Work to Resurface 20 Miles of County Roads
A road maintenance project to extend the lifespan of more than 20 miles of Howard County’s roads in the western region by seven to ten years, has begun. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by August.
Woodcrest Drive Stream Rehabilitation Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to stabilize two tributaries to Deep Run in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin on or about Thursday, June 16th. Located north of Mayfield Woods Middle School, the sections of the stream to be stabilized extend from the walking path north of the school upstream to a site near 8089 Woodloo Drive. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-March 2023.
Leishear Road Closure, Detour to Begin
A developer project to lower a portion of Leishear Road in North Laurel in order to meet sight-distance requirements, will begin on or about Monday, June 20th. During the project, Leishear Road between Graeloch Road and Mary Lee Lane (opposite the entrance to the new Wellington Farms subdivision) will be closed to through traffic. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed in late July 2022.
Complete Street Improvements Underway Along Oakland Mills Road
A Howard County construction project to improve pedestrian access and safety, while providing roadway improvements along Oakland Mills Road in Columbia has begun. This Oakland Mills Road Complete Street project will be done in two phases and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by mid-September.
