ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County project to demolish and remove the existing Deep Run Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elkridge located between 5956 and 5988 Church Avenue, just southeast of the Church Avenue and Race Road intersection, will begin on or about Monday, May 26th. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by late November 2025.
Shut down and decommissioned in the early 1980’s, the Deep Run Wastewater Treatment Plant served the area until the construction of a sewer interceptor across the Patapsco River was completed. Today, sewage is to the Patapsco Treatment Plant in Baltimore for treatment. This project will allow the County to remove the unused structure and return the site to its natural condition for wildlife and forest to grow and thrive. The site contains two of the largest Sycamore and Scarlet oak trees in Howard County, which will be preserved with this project.
While the project is not expected to impact the flow of traffic, signs will be posted in the project area to notify residents of the construction, which will take place Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
