ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to stabilize a short stretch of stream slope and two existing storm drain outfalls experiencing damage from erosion near 8686 Wheatfield Way in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 1st. A wall structure utilizing boulders will be constructed to stabilize the slope, and riprap and a step pool structure will be utilized to steady the storm drain outfalls. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-September 2026.

Signs will be posted to alert motorists and pedestrians of the construction and flagging operations will be used as needed to direct traffic through the work area when construction vehicles are entering and exiting the project site. While construction work will mainly take place Monday through Friday, 7:00 a m. to 7:00 p.m., some work may occur on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., pending prior approval from the County.

While the County and its construction partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
