ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today signed Executive Order 2026-02 declaring a State of Emergency for Howard County in anticipation of a winter weather event forecasted to impact the region from Saturday, January 24 through Monday, January 26. During this winter weather event, significant snowfall, sleet, and ice accumulations are expected, with sustained below-freezing temperatures likely to persist through the end of next week. The Executive Order can be found on Howard County’s website.

In addition to the emergency declaration, Ball also issued orders to restrict parking at the following locations in Howard County, effective 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026:

  • Along Main Street in Historic Ellicott City from Ellicott Mills Drive to the Baltimore County line at the Patapsco River; and
  • Along roads and streets designated as “Snow Emergency Routes” in the county.

Residents and visitors in Historic Ellicott City are advised to move their cars to one of historic Ellicott City’s parking lots, which will remain open.

“The safety of our residents is always our top priority. In anticipation of this severe winter weather event and the sustained freezing temperatures expected over the coming days, I have declared a State of Emergency for Howard County,” said Ball. “This action allows us to mobilize county resources and ensure we are prepared to keep roads passable and critical services operating. We urge all residents to take this storm seriously, limit travel when possible, and follow posted parking restrictions so our crews can work safely and effectively to protect our community.”

Earlier in the week, Ball shared a comprehensive update on Howard County Government’s preparations in anticipation of the winter weather. This includes guidance on winter weather preparation, safety tips, county closures, and other resources.
