Hall Shop Road Intersection Realignment Public Meeting

Howard County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, October 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the media center at Clarksville Middle School, located at 6535 Trotter Road in Clarksville, to discuss the study, design and planned realignment of Hall Shop Road at Browns Bridge Road. The project will also improve sight distance in the vicinity of the intersection.

 

While there will be no formal presentation, the design plans will be available for public view and staff members will be on hand to explain the proposed work and detour, answer any questions and gather public comments. Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the proposed plans and/or have questions regarding the project should contact Mr. Thomas Auyeung with DPW’s Transportation and Special Projects Division at 410-313-6142 or email tauyeung@howardcountymd.gov. If schools are closed the day of the meeting, the meeting will be rescheduled.

19th annual 50+EXPO

Back for its 19th consecutive year, the 2017 50+EXPO features 170 vendors and exhibitors of interest to older adults age 50 and over, their families, caregivers and friends. Admission is $1.00 for everyone age 18 and up. There will be seminars about preparedness, information and education for older adults to use in everyday life, plus an onsite health fair with free screenings and free flu shot vaccines. The Capitol Steps will return for one show at 11 a.m. in The Jim Rouse Theatre. Attendees are asked to make a $5 donation for show tickets; all proceeds benefit the Vivian Reid Community Fund, which provides emergency financial assistance to older adults in Howard County.

Collision Avoidance Training

The Collision Avoidance Training (CAT) program is a defensive driving and vehicle control program for young drivers developed by the National Traffic Safety Academy. During the one-day course, adapted from law enforcement training, young drivers learn how to better handle their vehicles in various situations. Participants must be ages 16-20, possess a valid Maryland "Class C" driver’s license (no learner's permit) and bring a vehicle to drive during the practical exercises. Cost is $95. Participants must register in advance by contacting program coordinator Jessica Beram at JBeram@howardcountymd.gov.
