ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Commission on Disabilities is now seeking nominations for its 2022 Employer Awards. These awards recognize Howard County employers who, as evidenced by hiring practices, staff development, advancement possibilities and accommodation practices, value diversity and provide equal opportunities for employees with disabilities. The nomination deadline is noon, Friday, August 19, 2022.
We have worked to expand opportunity for all. Employers who recognize the importance of inclusive practices and treating employees with disabilities with dignity, fairness and respect, play a big part in our community being the best place to live, work, play, and grow for all. If you know an employer in Howard County who promotes opportunities for people with disabilities, I encourage you to nominate them for an award.
The award categories are as follows:
- Large non-profit – An organization that is tax-exempt and has 50 or more employees, whether full or part-time.
- Small non-profit – An organization that is tax-exempt and has fewer than 50 employees, whether full or part-time.
- Large for-Profit – An organization that is a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation or other legal entity, that is organized or operated for profit, and has 50 or more employees, whether full or part-time.
- Small for-Profit – An organization that is a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation or other legal entity, that is organized or operated for profit, and has fewer than 50 employees, whether full or part-time.
- Public Sector – The Federal Government, State of Maryland, Howard County Government or their agencies and instrumentalities that provide government services and have full or part-time employees.

Award winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, hosted by Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and members of the Commission on Disabilities, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Belmont Manor & Historic Park in Elkridge.
