ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Government offices, 50+ centers and animal shelter will be closed in observance of the Juneteenth National Freedom Day holiday on Friday, June 18th. However, regular Friday curbside trash, recycling, food scrap and yard trim collection services will be in effect and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open.

Juneteenth is a historic day for our country, as the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Today, we’re proud to celebrate Juneteenth for the first time as an official County holiday. In Howard County, we know that diversity is our strength, and we are always working to be more equitable and inclusive. That includes making sure that our community has the opportunity to recognize and learn more about this defining day.
