ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants with disabilities to serve on the Commission on Disabilities and enhance our efforts to be a welcoming and inclusive community. The deadline to apply for this vacancy is July 7, 2025.

“Our Boards and Commissions are a vital means to remaining inclusive and staying in touch with the needs of all our residents,” said Ball. “I encourage our neighbors with disabilities to join us and have their voices heard. That is how we can best serve ALL the members of our community.”

Established in 1988, the Commission on Disabilities is comprised of 15 members who each serve three-year terms and include people with disabilities, service providers, family members of people with disabilities, and other members of the public. The Commission is tasked with increasing public awareness of disability-related issues and serves in an advisory capacity on County programs, policies, and budget.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be Howard County residents, 18 years of age or older, who have a disability and demonstrate broad-based experience with issues involving persons with disabilities. Applicants must also be able to commit time and effort to actively pursue the responsibilities of the Commission, including attending its meetings. Meetings are generally held on the fourth Monday of every month, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at a location to be determined by the Commission.
