ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Office of Transportation (OoT) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 22nd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Event Hall at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, to present its initial feasibility study findings and concept plans for proposed Complete Streets pedestrian and bicycle improvement plans for Montgomery Road between Deborah Jean Drive and Rowanberry Drive.
Complete Streets infrastructure creates neighborhood connections and provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options to move around their communities. To help us expand multimodal transportation in Howard County, including in our Elkridge community, my proposed Fiscal Year 2026 Capital Budget included $13.8 million in County funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways, and other Complete Streets infrastructure that makes projects like this possible.
Earlier this year, OoT began a study to evaluate the feasibility of installing pedestrian and bicycle facilities along Montgomery Road in the project area. This public meeting will share the initial findings of the study and gather public feedback to help guide the study’s final phase, which is expected to be completed in fall 2025.
While there will be no formal presentation, the concept plans will be available for public viewing and OoT staff members and project consultants will be on hand to explain the proposed work, discuss the study’s progress, answer any questions, and gather public comments.
Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions, should contact Mr. Chris Eatough with Transportation at 410-313-0567 or email ceatough@howardcountymd.gov. Immediately following the public meeting, the meeting materials will be available on OoT’s “Montgomery Road Pedestrian & Bicycle Facility Feasibility Study” website. From this same site, community members will also be able to access an online survey to share their thoughts and feedback about the project concepts; the survey will be available through Friday, June 6th.
For questions, more information and/or to provide feedback about this project, contact Transportation at 410-313-4312 or email transportation@howardcountymd.gov.
