Police officers and members of the community are joining forces tomorrow, Aug. 2, for National Night Out, an evening of events intended to generate participation in and support for local crime prevention activities.

Parties will kick off at 6 p.m. at Long Reach High School (6101 Old Dobbin Lane, Columbia) where Police Chief Gregory Der, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, Howard County Council Vice Chair Christiana Rigby, Congressman John P. Sarbanes, and Kunle Adeyemo, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention will welcome community members to the event.

The free kick-off event at Long Reach will feature food trucks, police and fire displays, a deejay, child-friendly activities, games, giveaways, displays from local businesses and community groups and more!

In preparing for National Night Out, the police department’s Community Outreach Division has helped residents organize 22 neighborhood block parties throughout the county. Police personnel and mascots, as well as partners from Maryland State Police, Howard County States Attorney’s Office, Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services will visit neighborhood parties throughout the county.
