UPDATE (9:20 p.m.): Howard County police took into custody the 17-year-old male suspect in this afternoon’s stabbing outside Long Reach High School. Charges are pending; more information will be released when available.

ORIGINAL RELEASE

Howard County police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred between two students in the parking lot of Long Reach High School around 11 a.m. An 18-year-old male student was injured and taken to Shock Trauma by ambulance. He is in serious but stable condition. The school resource officer (SRO) was on scene and rendered aid to the victim in less than a minute. 

The 17-year-old suspect fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and police are actively searching for him. 

Investigators believe the two students were engaged in an altercation for an unknown reason that resulted in the stabbing.

The school has moved into a modified lockdown.
